NaNoWriMo 2019
National Novel Writing Month, or NaNoWriMo for short, is upon us. The aim is to write 50,000 words in the month of November with a view to completing a novel. Now, my stories are a tad longer than 50K words – The Fall of The Veil clocked in at over 183,000! However, I have signed up and started the task of getting at least 50K words done this month and hopefully will have smashed a huge chunk of book 2 before the festive season is upon us.
Bear in mind I had already written 14 or so chapters before undertaking this challenge. So far I’m finding it fun and focusing – the daily word targets mean I get on with writing instead of falling into the common trap of going back to edit stuff I’ve already written. In five days I have written just over 10,000 words, so I’m 20% of the way to the target already! I know some of it will not be what I consider to be good, but there will be time after the event to edit and change things around.
All being well I should finish the first draft before the new year. It’s editing time then…
